Important Considerations When Selecting a Dust Collection System

Date:
Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Time:  12:00 PM (Noon) – 2:00 PM EDT

Presented by:  Gary Q. Johnson

Moderated by:  Robert Harkin, Associate Editor of Powder and Bulk Engineering

Webinar Cost:  $99.00 USD

Registration fee is non-refundable after the live event.

Webinar Details:  Dust collection systems are generally intended to capture nuisance dusts from a solids handling process. Significant fugitive dust accumulations in the workplace may be due to several system design problems. This webinar will describe the capture capability of the more common dust hoods as well as the importance of adequate duct conveying velocity in all duct branches. The key design issues to address in the design of hoods, ductwork, dust collector, and exhaust fan will be described, along with the importance of taking commissioning data at startup. The final point is an explanation of how commissioning data is necessary for sustaining long term system results through monitoring and maintenance.

Presenter Information:  Before becoming a consultant for Workplace Exposure Solutions, Gary worked in health, safety, and environment at Procter & Gamble for 27 years. His focus areas were dust control and central vacuum cleaning system design and maintenance, process safety around flammable vapors and combustible dusts, and environmental emissions and discharges. As a consultant over the last 9+ years, he has helped clients in consumer products, pharmaceuticals, plastics, paint and coatings, foods, flavorings, wood processing, specialty chemical, and metal forming industries.
